The Balance 310 with embedded 5G NR cellular as a built-in WAN tier
The Peplink Balance 310 5G is the cellular-equipped variant of the Balance 310 branch router family. Same fanless multi-gig branch router architecture as the standard Balance 310, but with an embedded 5G NR sub-6 GHz modem providing primary or backup cellular WAN without a separate CPE. Built for branches where 5G is the sensible WAN tier (rural, marginal fibre, sites awaiting fibre rollout) or where dual-WAN with 5G failover is non-negotiable. SKU BPL-310-5GN-Q-T-PRM.
Why pick this over base Balance 310
The base Balance 310 is a multi-gig branch router with multiple Ethernet WAN ports. Add a separate cellular CPE (e.g. BR1 Mini 5G with Synergy Mode) and you have effectively the same architecture for less money. Pick the Balance 310 5G when:
- Hardware count matters. One device, one rack-mount slot, one configuration profile, one InControl entitlement.
- Branch deployment at scale. Rolling out 50 branches, fewer SKUs, fewer cables, fewer install steps.
- 5G is the primary WAN. When fibre isn't available and 5G is the WAN tier you're building around, integrating cellular into the main router simplifies architecture.
What you get
- Embedded 5G NR sub-6 GHz modem with LTE Cat-20 fallback
- Multi-gig WAN/LAN on the Balance 310 chassis (10G + 2.5G ports)
- SpeedFusion bonding across cellular and Ethernet WAN, hot failover, WAN smoothing, bandwidth aggregation
- Fanless rugged enclosure for permanent branch installation
- InControl 2 cloud management with Cloud Provisioning for zero-touch branch rollout
- 1-Year PrimeCare bundled; PrimeCare extension via PRM-D tier
- Dual SIM + Peplink eSIM + BYO eSIM (with PrimeCare)
Where it fits
Branch sites where 5G NR is the right cellular tier (versus Cat-12 or Cat-20 LTE-A): rural enterprise, regions where 5G is reliable but fibre isn't, sites awaiting fibre rollout where 5G is the interim primary, and any branch where you want 5G as a fully-integrated backup path rather than an afterthought.
SpeedFusion bonding pattern
The natural deployment is to anchor each branch's Balance 310 5G to a central Balance 580X HW2 or SDX over SpeedFusion VPN. Multiple WAN paths per branch (fibre + 5G + Starlink) bond into a single resilient pipe back to HQ or cloud. PrimeCare D entitles 5 SpeedFusion peers per branch, scalable via licence.
Specifications
For the full multi-gig WAN spec, ports, throughput, recommended user count, and accessory list, see the base Balance 310 product page; the 5G variant adds the embedded 5G NR cellular modem to that platform.
Recommended add-ons
- External 4x4 cellular antenna: Mobility 42G for vehicle and small-site, or Antenna MAX for fixed-site IP67 PoE-powered
- PrimeCare D extension (PRM-D tier) for SpeedFusion bonding renewal beyond year 1
- Cellular spare antennas: ACW-235 paddle and ACW-232 GPS
