The Peplink FlexModule Mini 5G is a hot-swappable cellular module that drops into the FlexModule Mini bay on the Balance 580X HW2 (and other compatible Peplink hardware with a Mini bay). It adds an embedded 5G NR sub-6 GHz cellular WAN to an enterprise router that shipped without one, or upgrades an existing LTE Mini module to 5G in-place. Field-installable in minutes; no firmware reflash, no full reconfiguration. The router detects the new module on boot and exposes it as an additional WAN interface ready for SpeedFusion bonding.
Why this exists
The Balance 580X HW2 doesn't have a built-in cellular modem. The FlexModule Mini bay lets you add cellular when and how it makes sense for your deployment: 5G NR for the latest cellular tier (this module), Cat-20 LTE-A for sites where 5G isn't deployed yet (EXM-MINI-GLTE-S, £469), Cat-12 LTE-A for entry tier (EXM-MINI-1LTEA-Q, £379), or a SIM Injector module for centralised carrier management across multiple connected Peplink Domes (EXM-MINI-SIM-8, £439). One slot, multiple options, all field-installable.

Where it fits
Pick this when you have a Balance 580X HW2 (or other FlexModule Mini-equipped router) and you want to add 5G cellular as either primary or backup WAN. Common scenarios:
- Branch site where fibre is the primary WAN, 5G is the backup. SpeedFusion bonds them; if fibre drops, 5G takes over without breaking active connections.
- Pop-up or temporary site where wired WAN isn't available. 5G runs as primary, with a wired ISP added when one becomes available.
- Enterprise headquarters with multi-gig fibre primary. 5G as backup that's actually capable, not a token gesture.
- Multi-site SD-WAN. Each Balance 580X anchored at a remote site with a Mini 5G module gives every site cellular fallback without buying a separate cellular router.
Compatibility check
The Balance 580X HW2 has one FlexModule Mini bay, so one module per chassis. If you need cellular plus SIM Injector functionality, you'll need to choose. For multi-modem sites, two stacked Balance 580X HW2 with one Mini 5G in each, configured as HA pair, is one common pattern. The Tech Factory can model your specific architecture.

Antennas are not included with the module itself. Pair with a Mobility 42G (white or black), Slim 40G, or Antenna MAX depending on the deployment context.
Care and warranty
EssentialCare 1-Year for FlexModule Mini 5G is available as a separate add-on (SVL-EXM-MINI-5G-1Y, £109). Most enterprise customers bundle this with the module to align warranty cover with the host router's PrimeCare J subscription.
